The next program meeting will be hosted in person at AleSmith Brewery on Wednesday, July 29 at 7pm.
Our Speaker: Jarred Roberts, PhD, is an associate project scientist exploring the fascinating and awe-inspiring high-energy phenomena of our Universe. He works on multiple cutting-edge astrophysics missions, including COSI—a NASA MeV gamma-ray space telescope scheduled to launch in 2027—that will revolutionize our understanding of antimatter, black holes, and the cosmic origins of the elements. His work helps tackle one of humanity’s oldest questions: Where do we come from? Jarred also contributes to future mission concepts like the Advanced Particle-astrophysics Telescope (APT) and Strobe-X, both of which aim to push the boundaries of γ-ray and X-ray astronomy. Passionate about sharing science beyond the lab, Jarred co-chairs the UCSD A&A Outreach Committee and co-founded the UCSD A&A Astrophotography Group, combining his love of science with the art of capturing the cosmos.
